Let's all be Each for Equal!
Updated: Aug 10
A day that was earmarked by the United Nation’s in 1975 as the UN Day for woman’s rights and world peace, March 8th has since been celebrated in over 100 countries. This year would be the 109th year of celebrating International Women’s Day.
The theme this year is “An equal world is an enabled world" which is the core message of #EachforEqual. Governments and organisations around the world have been doing their bit to help promote gender equality and I applaud them for building up the momentum every year.
On a personal note, growing up in India, me and my two sisters were brought up with a lot of discipline but we were never stopped from doing what we wanted. I am ever grateful to my parents for giving us the total freedom to go and find our paths without any reservations. I never saw my parents uphold any patriarchal values or bend to social norms.

As a mother of two children, a boy and a girl, I can only hope that they go forth into a world where there are equal opportunities in education, a fair chance to pursue their choice of profession, equality in pay and privileges, and no fear of any prejudice. A world where men and women can complement each other to make it a more beautiful place for generations to come. What I wish for my son is what I wish for my daughter too.
“Gender Equality begins with women - a mother raising an empowered daughter and raising a son who gives women around him the same respect and choice."
To my sisters, cousins, aunts, girlfriends, colleagues and other women that are part of my life I would love for all of us to support, uphold and be the wind under each others wings to soar high, pursue your passion, live your dreams, reach new milestones and go out into the world and create a mark for womanhood.
On that note cheers to us ladies! When the world is aligning itself to support us there are only good things that can come out of it. Gender parity may be something we could be looking at in the near future
